Secrets of Kandahar - Circa 1923 (Digital Album)

Description

The digital album Circa 1923 is the debut release from synthwave project Secrets of Kandahar. The compilation contains nine songs with cover art in MP3 quality for download. Creator Chroust and AI model Lena Baier play out a bizarre visual-musical game that combines found footage style Arabic culture, Dadaist hyper-kitsch, techno mysticism, and synthwave, which he calls New-wave Synthpop. The result is a surreal collage that looks like an amateur documentary from a parallel universe, where giant robots and fantastic animals walk alongside people in desert cities.

Circa 1923 is also a reflection of the AI meme phenomenon "Giant of Kandahar," which has become legendary among digital communities. The clickbait image gave birth to an entire aesthetic direction, which Chroust transformed into his own musical and visual poetics. The album opens the gate to Kandahar – a planet where the boundaries between history, sci-fi, and phantasmagoria blur.
